Two Haverhill Bank employees earn new positions

HAVERHILL, Mass. (June 23, 2010) — Maureen M. Stillwell of Andover was promoted to vice president/commercial lending at Haverhill Bank and Lynda A. Abate of Methuen was named bank secrecy act/deposit compliance officer last week.

Stillwell provides lending services to business customers and is the primary lender for loans to non-profit agencies and serves as the bank’s environmental risk officer. Abate is now responsible for all policies, procedures and compliance under the Bank Secrecy Act and Deposit Regulations.  She is also responsible for detecting and preventing money laundering by filing reports to the government on suspicious activity and assists with financial reporting and compliance relating to state and federal regulations.

“Interacting with members of the community and helping them find affordable lending solutions is a large part of my role at the bank,” said Stillwell. “Working with organizations such as the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, Small Business Administration and MassDevelopment provides me with a number of resources to explore in order to connect customers with the best programs available,” she explained.

 “With so many new regulations being imposed on the banking industry lately, it is a top priority at the bank to effectively communicate with consumers and customers to ensure they have all of the information needed to make safe and responsible decisions, and are protected from scams and fraudulent programs,” said Abate, who has served at local institutions including Bay Bank Merrimack Valley, Merrimack Valley Federal Credit Union and the former Northeast Community Credit Union. She received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Hesser College in Manchester, N.H. and is a member of the Haverhill Chamber Kidsfest Planning Committee.

 schools including the Graduate School of Lending at the University of Oklahoma. She is a Haverhill Bank representative for the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce and Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce, and a member of Interise, an organization that stimulates economic development in low income urban areas through educational programs for small business owners.  

A depositor-owned institution, Haverhill Bank was founded in 1877 and is the oldest cooperative bank in Massachusetts. The bank’s Main Office is at 180 Merrimack St. in Haverhill. Haverhill Bank also maintains offices at 163 South Main St., 1094 Main St., 100 Lafayette Sq., Haverhill High School and Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School.
